Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are locking horns in Match 38 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday, November 06 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The decision was vindicated by Shoriful Islam who dismissed opener Kusal Perera in the very first over of the innings.

After conceding a boundary on the third ball of the over, Islam managed to find the outside edge of Perera’s bat who nicked one trying to chase a wide delivery. The ball went wide of wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, who completed a breathtaking catch diving to his left.

Former Pakistan cricketer turned commentator, Ramiz Raja had the perfect choice of words to describe Rahim’s exceptional glovework as he used the viral ‘looking like a wow’ trend to praise the Bangladesh wicketkeeper. Raja’s description even left his co-commentator Russel Arnold in splits.

After losing his partner early, Pathum Nissanka took the innings ahead and played a brilliant knock of 41 (36) with the help of eight fours in his innings. However, Sri Lanka further lost their captain Kusal Mendis (19 off 30) and Nissanka and were left reeling at 72/3 after 12.4 overs.

Angelo Mathews became the first batter to be dismissed timed out in international cricket

Sadeera Samarawickrama stabilized the innings with his innings of 41 (42), however, he failed to reach his half-century and got dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan. The Sri Lankan innings also saw a bizarre mode of dismissal as Angelo Mathews became the first player to be dismissed timed out in the history of international cricket.

The 36-year-old walked to the crease but found some issues with his helmet and asked for it to be changed. However, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpire in the meanwhile and Mathews was finally ruled out for not being ready to face the ball within two minutes as per the playing conditions of the ODI World Cup 2023.
