Netherlands register shock win against South Africa
Talking of game 15 of the ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa faced off against the Netherlands at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. The clash began with the Netherlands coming out to bat first, and the side got off to a subpar start as openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd only managed to score two and 18 runs, respectively.
After the top-order’s collapse, it was the knock of Scott Edwards, who added 78 runs to the board and with some contribution from the lower order, the Netherlands managed to post a total of 245 runs on the board in the first innings.
Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Kagiso Rabada were the highest wicket takers for the Proteas, with two wickets each as Gerald Coetzee and Keshav Maharaj struck once each.
Aiming to chase down the target, South Africa aimed to keep their winning run alive; however, the Netherlands had a different plan. Openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock scored 16 and 20 runs, respectively, as the top-order collapsed. David Miller was the highest run-getter with 43 runs to his name in 52 deliveries.
The Netherlands pulled off the impossible as they bundled out the Proteas for 207 runs, winning the game by 38 runs.
