India and New Zealand locked horns in the first semi-final of the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15, Wednesday. Rohit Sharma, India's captain, won the toss and opted to bat first.

The gallery was graced by the presence of several notable personalities who gathered to witness the high-octane clash. Shubman Gill's parents were also in attendance at the stadium while the daughter of the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Sara, was also spotted in the stands. Notably, Gill and Sara are rumored to be a couple even as the two have neither confirmed nor denied the claims.

Talking about the match, Rohit Sharma and Gill set the stage on fire with an impressive start for the home team. Nevertheless, Tim Southee executed a skillful slower delivery, pitching it full and targeting the middle and Rohit attempted to slog it away by using his feet but was caught off guard by the reduced pace. The Indian captain mistimed his shot, sending the ball high in the air behind mid-off where Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson ran back and managed to take a breathtaking catch while tumbling over.

Gill continued his power hitting after India lost the wicket of captain Rohit, who contributed a quickfire 47 runs. The young opener achieved his 13th ODI fifty and attempted to build a crucial partnership with Virat Kohli.

However, in the middle of the 23rd over, after securing a single, Gill went down and stayed down on the ground. While the physio was checking on him, the batter pointed to his groin and then traced a line down his leg to his knee. After a stunning innings of 79 runs off 65 balls, Gill eventually decided to walk off the field as retired hurt.
