The renowned Island cricketing nation Sri Lanka (SL) had to face an unexpected situation when they were forced to for their qualification for the upcoming ODI Cricket World Cup through the Qualifiers tournament. This mega event was held in Zimbabwe in a bid to fill the empty slots available for the marquee event. Not to forget that the Lankan Lions have lifted the coveted trophy back in 1996. Therefore, they have stormed into the upcoming mega-event by going through a rather scary route, as they have appeared in all the mega-events since the time they began playing the game.
As a result, they were the first team to book their ticket for the World Cup, which is slated to commence from October 5, in India. Speaking of the final of the World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, Sri Lanka showed complete domination on the Netherlands, as it turned out to be a rather one-sided contest. On July 9, In Harare, the Lankan side locked horns with the Men in Orange, whereby, they batted first and posted a competitive total of 233 runs on the board. Sahan Arachchige (57 off 71) and Kusal Mendis (43 off 52) starred with the bat for Sri Lanka.

Talking of notable bowling performances for the Netherlands, Longan Van Beek continued his sublime form and picked up two wickets. Besides, Ryan Klein, Saib Zulfiqar and Vikramjeet Singh also shared two wickets each between them. However, during their run chase, the side had a rather forgetful start in the run chase, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Consequently, Sri Lanka routed them with a thumping victory by 128 runs. For the Lankan Lions, bowlers Maheesh Theekshana picked a four-wicket haul (4/31), while Dilshan Madhusanka finished with a three-wicket haul (3/18), respectively. Apart from the Dutch side, they also convincingly defeated teams like Scotland, Oman and the hosts Zimbabwe, respectively.
Now. speaking of the ODI World Cup 2023, the showpiece event will begin at Ahmedabad, followed by ten other venues across the country. The grand finale will be played on November 19, at the grand Narendra Modi Stadium, situated in Ahmedabad, in Gujarat. While the other knockout phases of the event will be held in Kolkata and Mumbai on November 16 and 15.
Furthermore, there will be 45 matches in the league stage along with knockout games in the ODI World Cup 2023. These games will be conducted over a brief time period of 46 days. Notably, cities like Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Dharamsala, Pune, and Mumbai will host these high-octane matches. Notably, all the knockout games in the form of two Semi-Finals and Final will have a reserve day in place, should the game get interrupted by rain.
