With just three days left in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the participating teams are finalising their preparations as they’re locking horns against each other in the warm-up matches. England, Bangladesh, New Zealand and South Africa were the four teams who took part in the warm-up games on Monday, October 02.

Match 6 England vs Bangladesh

After their first warm-up fixture vs India got washed out, the defending champions finally began their World Cup campaign with a practice game vs Bangladesh. The rain in Guwahati once again reduced the match to 37 overs per side. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, however, they didn’t get off to a good start as opener Litton Das (5 off 6) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (2 off 11) returned to the pavilion cheaply.

Tanzid Hasan (45 off 44) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (74 off 89) held the innings together with their brilliant knocks. Courtesy of their innings, Bangladesh finished with the score of 188/9 in 37 overs. Reece Topley was the pick of the bowlers for England with figures of 3/23 in five overs.

In reply, England were given a big blow with Mustafizur Rahman accounting for Dawid Malan in the first over itself. However, a half-century by Moeen Ali (56 off 39) and handy contributions from Jos Buttler (30 off 15) and Jonny Bairstow (34 off 21) saw England home as they won the match by four wickets in 24.1 overs.

Match 7 New Zealand vs South Africa

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first and the decision was vindicated by his side as they posted 321/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Devon Conway (78 off 73), Tom Latham (52 off 56), and Glenn Philips (43 off 40) were all among the runs for New Zealand.

In reply, South Africa lost opener Reeza Hendricks in the very first over but their innings was stabilised by brilliant knocks from Quinton de Kock (84* off 89), Rassie van der Dussen (51 off 56), Heinrich Klaasen (39 off 37), David Miller (18* off 26). The trio helped their side reach 211/4 after 37 overs when rain interrupted play. There was no more play possible and New Zealand were awarded the match by 7 runs (DLS Method).
