ODI World Cup Warm-ups 2023: Day 4 Round-up
Australia and Afghanistan registered wins in their respective fixtures while India faced another washout.
The fourth and final day of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 featured three matches namely India vs Netherlands, Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan and Australia vs Pakistan on Tuesday, October 03. While India once again faced a wash out in their second warm-up fixture, Australia and Afghanistan got wins under their belt.
Match 8 Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan
Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to bowl first at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. Captaining the side, Kusal Mendis played a sensational innings of 158 off 87 balls. However, he didn’t get much support from other players as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 294 in 46.2 overs.
In reply, Afghanistan chased down the DLS revised target of 257 with 23 balls to spare. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (119 off 92) and Rahmat Shah (93 off 82) guided his team to victory in 38.1 overs.
Match 9 India vs Netherlands
The match got abandoned at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram without a ball being bowled.
Match 10 Pakistan vs Australia
After winning the toss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision was happily accepted by his team as David Warner (48 off 33), Glenn Maxwell (77 off 71), Cameron Green (50* off 40) and Josh Inglis (48 off 30) were amongst the runs.
In reply, Pakistan got off to a miserable start as they were left reeling at 83/4 after 15 overs. However, Iftikhar Ahmed (83 off 85) and Babar Azam (90 off 59) stabilized the innings with their massive century stand. After the duo returned to the pavilion, Mohammad Nawaz (50 off 42) along with some valuable contributions from the tail tried his best to take his side over the line but they fell 14 runs short and got bundled out on 337.
