Odisha woman cricketer Rajashree Swain found dead near Cuttack forest
Rajashree Swain, 26, missed out on making it to the final list of the Odisha state women's cricket team on January 10 and was missing in action from the very next day.
In a shocking turn of events in Cuttack, Odisha women's cricketer Rajashree Swain, who was missing since Wednesday, has been found dead by the police in a thick forest on Friday, January 13. The body of the female cricketer was found hanging from a tree in the Gurudijhatia forest in the Athagarh area. The body was found after a missing complaint was filed at the Mangalabag police station.
Rajashree Swain, 26, missed out on making it to the final list of the Odisha state women's cricket team on January 10 and was missing in action from the very next day. She did not participate in a practice session on a cricket field in the Tangi area, informing her coach that she was going to Puri to meet her father.
However, a missing complaint was filed at the Mangalabag police station after the cricketer's whereabouts remained unknown for an entire day. Following the complaint, the police started an investigation, which led them to the cricketer's deceased body in a dense forest near Cuttack.
Mystery surrounds the death of the female cricketer
Cuttack's Deputy Commissioner of Police Pinak Mishra revealed that a case of unnatural death will be registered at Gurudijhatia police station since her scooter and mobile phone were found abandoned near the forest. The body also bore injury marks, according to reports. The deceased cricketer's family has alleged that the cricketer was murdered, with the police probing all angles of the harrowing incident.
“An investigation is on. We are looking into all angles as to why Rajashree chose this dense forest or is there any other mystery behind her death. She had been missing from January 11. We tracked her based on her phone location. We are also going to interrogate the hotel staff and fellow players and many others to unearth the mystery behind the untimely demise of the young cricketer,” Gurudijhatia IIC told the press.
Swain's family revealed that the deceased cricketer was part of a training camp that included 24 other cricketers organized by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) in the Bajrakabati area. All the participants were staying at a hotel nearby and were indulging in rigorous training for an upcoming national-level cricket tournament scheduled to be held in Puducherry.
