United States of America produced a spectacular performance and picked up a thrilling victory over Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Their bowlers restricted the Babar Azam-led side to 159 runs as Nosthush Kenjige picked three wickets while Saurabh Netravalkar picked two. USA looked comfortable during the chase but the match ended on level terms eventually and went to the Super Over.

Mohammad Amir leaked 18 runs in the Super Over as USA won by five runs. It was a massive victory for the Monank Patel-led side as they managed to pull off one of the biggests upsets in the game's history. After the win, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed his joy but refused to comment further, stating that it is beyond his "area of expertise".

“I often get in trouble when I try to comment on things beyond my area of expertise, and I would say Pakistan's cricket team is certainly in that category,” Miller was quoted as saying by India Today.

Miller’s comments underscore the political relationship between the two nations. When it comes to sports, USA are much ahead of Pakistan in football, athletics and tennis among other sports but the latter have had the bragging rights in cricket, but that too was taken away in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, USA have the opportunity to create history by defeating Ireland in their final group game of the season. With four points to their name, the hosts are close to making it to the Super 8 but if they fail to beat Ireland, they could miss the berth. In that case, Pakistan would fancy their chances of beating Ireland and qualifying for the next round. However, there’s a massive possibility of the matches in Florida being washed out due to rain and if that happens, USA would automatically qualify for the Super 8, leaving Pakistan behind.
