Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in sizzling form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as the side made it to the finals of the competition. A few days ago, in the quarter-final fixture against Uttar Pradesh, the batter clobbered a record-breaking 220* runs, which included seven sixes coming off a single over.
After hammering UP left-arm spinner Shiva Singh in the 49th over for 43 runs, the batter opined that he could only think of one India legend, Yuvraj Singh during his magical knock.
“After the fifth six, only one person crossed my mind, and that was Yuvraj Singh. I had seen him hit six sixes in an over when I was really young during the World Cup. I wanted to be alongside him, that's why I wanted to go for the sixth one. I was very happy that I was able to hit six sixes. I never thought I would be hitting six sixes in an over,” Gaikwad said while speaking to BCCI.
Great pleasure to be alongside his name, to be a part of the hype that's all around: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Yuvraj Singh had achieved a similar feat back in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup when he was up against England’s Stuart Broad and blasted six sixes off the pace spearhead. Gaikwad, who has now put his name alongside the India great, expressed that he was delighted to be part of the ‘hype’.
“It's a great pleasure to be alongside his name and to be a part of the hype that's all around this over,” he added.
The flamboyant opener has amassed 552 runs in just four outings this season and will aim to maintain a similar performance in the summit clash. The Gaikwad-led Maharashtra lock horns with rivals Saurashtra in the all-exciting Vijay Hazare Trophy final scheduled to be played on December 2, Friday.
