In a major setback for Cricket South Africa (CSA), pacer Ottniel Baartman and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo will miss the remaining two ODIs against India in their ongoing three-game series. Notably, Baartman suffered a right-side strain in training, whereas Phehlukwayo sustained a left-side strain in the first ODI against India.

As a result, pacer Beuran Hendricks has been announced as the replacement for the injured player as per the ICC. The 33-year-old has played eight ODIs for South Africa, where he has managed to take five wickets. Furthermore, he has played 19 T20Is and one Test match since his debut in 2014.

The two injuries could come to hurt South Africa, as after drawing the T20I series, the hosts are trailing in the ODI series after the Men in Blue dominated them in Johannesburg. Team India will look to put in yet another brilliant performance in the second ODI of the series against South Africa. Led by KL Rahul, the visitors got off to a brilliant start to the 50-over series after they registered a comfortable win in the first ODI.

Debutant Sai Sudharsan starred with the bat as India dominated South Africa in first ODI

The first ODI began with the Proteas batting first and only managing to score 116 runs on the board before they were bundled out. Arshdeep Singh was the highest wicket-taker, with five wickets to his name. Avesh Khan took four as well, with Kuldeep Yadav striking once.

Aiming to chase down the reasonable target, debutant Sai Sudharshan showcased his class, scoring 55* runs in 43 deliveries. Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer amassed 52 runs in 45 deliveries as India won the game by eight wickets. Getting the lead in the series, India will hope for another brilliant showing in the second ODI which is scheduled to be held at the St George's Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday, December 19.

South Africa's squad for the last two ODIs: Aiden Markram (c), Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Mihlali Mpongwana, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne, and Lizaad Williams
