England pacer Jofra Archer has undergone another surgery which kept him on the sidelines for Mumbai Indians' clash against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, April 25 in the ongoing IPL 2023. As per reports, the ace pacer travelled to Belgium recently and underwent a minor procedure on his right elbow.
Notably, this is the fifth time Archer has undergone medical treatment in the last 25 months. Now, even though he was declared fit, the 28-year-old didn’t feature in Mumbai’s last game against Gujarat Titans and that once again put a cloud over his fitness status.
As per The Telegraph, Belgian surgeon Roger van Riet performed the procedure. Even though it was initially feared that the injury will keep him out for at least four weeks, that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.
Gujarat defeat Mumbai by 55 runs in Jofra’s absence
Without Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer in the mix, Mumbai’s bowling attack looked pale as they conceded 207 against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, April 25. GT opener Shubman Gill set the tone of the match with his brilliant half-century while David Miller (46 runs off 22 deliveries), Abhinav Manohar (42 runs off 21 deliveries) and Rahul Tewatia (20* runs off five deliveries) wreaked havoc towards the fag end of the innings.
Mumbai’s bowlers seemed clueless as none of their plans worked at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Arjun Tendulkar started well but wasn’t trusted with the ball in the death overs while on the other hand, Cameron Green and Riley Meredith leaked a lot of runs as Mumbai had a mountain to climb during their chase.
Notably, the five-time champions needed a rapid start but unfortunately lost wickets in quick succession. Skipper Hardik Pandya gave GT their first breakthrough as Rohit Sharma had to walk back to the pavilion in the second over of the innings itself.
Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tim David, all failed to make the most of the opportunity as Mumbai could post only 152 runs on the board and lost the game by 55 runs. They now remain seventh on the IPL Points Table while Gujarat with five wins have moved to number two.
