Rain once again played spoilsport in the Pakistan vs India encounter in the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday, September 10 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. After India were put in to bat first, the Men in Blue had reached the score of 147/2 after 24.1 overs when the heavens opened and India’s innings came to a halt.
With the rain coming down heavily in Colombo, the DLS method will come into effect to force a result today itself and prevent the game from going into a reserve day on Monday, September 11. In such a scenario, Pakistan will be given a target of 181 to chase down in 20 overs. The target will further increase to 187 for a 21-over game, 194 for a 22-over game, 200 for a 23-over game and 206 in case of a 24-over match.

If India do not bat again and Pakistan are given same overs, then Pakistan's target will be 206 in 24 overs.
However, if no further play takes place today, the match will resume from the same score tomorrow. Notably, the previous game between the two teams got washed out after rain didn’t allow the second innings to begin in Pallekele. India batted first and got all out for 266 before rain played spoilsport and the points were shared between the two teams.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on 100-run partnership
Meanwhile, during the Super 4 fixture, India got off to an electrifying start as opener Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on a massive 121-run partnership for the first wicket. The opening duo showed intent from the first over itself as Rohit flicked Shaheen Afridi for a massive six. Furthermore, Gill took on India’s nemesis and smacked him for three boundaries in back-to-back overs.
Courtesy of their onslaught, Afridi’s figures in the opening spell read 0/31 in three overs. Their massive stand was broken by Shadab Khan who got the Indian skipper (56 off 49) caught at long-off. Afridi also made a comeback by dismissing Gill (58 off 52) in the very next over. At rain interruption, Virat Kohli (8* off 16) and KL Rahul (17* off 28) were at the crease having put 24 runs on the board together.
