Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who took a U-turn from retirement have also been inducted into the squad.
Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The squad was announced after a thorough two-hour meeting on Friday attended by Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Bilal Afzal, Gary Kirsten, Mohammad Yousuf, and Wahab Riaz. Pakistan will be led by Babar Azam at the World Cup commencing on June 2 in the United States of America and West Indies.
Amongst the players who are making their T20 World Cup debut are Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan. Moreover, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who took a U-turn from retirement have also been inducted into the squad. It is worth noting that Amir will be playing his second T20I World Cup after being part of the side that won the title in 2010. Eight of the 15 members have represented the previous edition held in Australia.
“This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well-prepared and settled for next month’s event. Haris Rauf is fully fit and bowling well in the nets. It would have been nice if he had gotten an outing at Headingley, but we remain confident that he will continue to maintain an upward trajectory in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role to play along with other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup,” the statement from PCB read as quoted by their official website.
