The high-profile Super 4 clash between India and Pakistan produced a scintillating contest between the neighbouring countries with the Men in Green prevailing in a last-over finish. While young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was on the receiving end from the fans after dropping a clanger in the match, the Ministry of Electronics & IT summoned Wikipedia executives in India after the Indian pacers' Wikipedia tampered.

Arshdeep found himself the subject of criticism after India's narrow defeat against arch-rival on Sunday in Dubai. The 23-year-old put down a relatively simple chance of Asif Ali in the 18th over, which came back to haunt the Indian team as the power-hitting batter smashed a six and a boundary in the next over to take Pakistan to the cusp of victory.

Arshdeep's drop catch was a decisive factor in the match, but current senior players and former Indian cricketers have defended the youngster, who is still in the nascent stages of his international career. In the aftermath of the match, the Indian cricketer's Wikipedia page was edited by an unknown source, replacing the words "India" with "Khalistan" at several locations.

Although the modifications were undone within 15 minutes by Wikipedia editors, Indian authorities seek an explanation of how Indian cricketer Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page entry was altered to reflect the Khalistan association. The Centre believes this misleading information could disturb communal harmony in the country and also lead to a grim law and order situation for the cricketer's family.

Pakistan link suspected in tampering of cricketer Arshdeep Singh's page

In the latest reports, it has been uncovered that the IP address which was used to alter Arshdeep's Wikipedia page was the same one that had created news by editing out references to the Pakistani military and Pervez Musharraf. The same IP was also used to revise the UAE Wikipedia page that had critical references to the Pakistani military in 2014.

A high-level panel is set to enquire the executives of the crowdsourced digital encyclopedia on precautionary checks, with the body even issuing a show cause notice after Arshdeep Singh's page was modified to establish links to the separatist Khalistani movement.
