Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has revealed his reason for the latest retirement from international cricket. The left-arm pacer had previously stepped away from international duties in December 2020 but made a comeback to represent Pakistan in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, held in the United States and the West Indies.

The left-handed bowler is currently featuring in the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025), playing for Quetta Gladiators. The 33-year-old expressed disappointment over the lack of communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the T20 World Cup, which made him understand that he was not in the plan to represent the team further.

"After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me, no one told me about any plans. A wise man needs no further explanation. If I’m not in the plan, then I have to think about myself. Now I’ve made up my mind — thank you very much to international cricket," Amir said on Geo News.

The pacer also revealed that he had given up his county contract. He travelled to the World Cup on his own expenses and personally bore the costs for himself and his trainer, managing everything independently.

"When I came to play in the World Cup, I left my county contract. Whatever I played in the World Cup, I ended up spending more money myself. My trainer traveled with me, and I bore all those expenses personally. Anyway, that’s a separate matter," he said.

Earlier in his career, the bowler was involved in a spot-fixing scandal during Pakistan’s 2010 tour of England. He was banned from cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which became a major setback in his promising career.

Despite the controversies, the Pakistan cricketer leaves behind a solid record in international cricket. He picked up 119 wickets in 36 Test matches, 81 wickets in 61 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 71 wickets in 62 T20 Internationals (T20Is).
