Pakistan’s performance at the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 has been questioned by many so far. Having played six games in the tournament, Pakistan sits in seventh place in the standings with just four points and their qualification chances hanging by a thread.
However, many are of the opinion that the side’s issues are not limited to the field but several issues are deeply rooted within the board. The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) recently released a statement where they urged the fans to show more support for Babar Azam and his side.
The release also stated that the board will be making some decisions for the betterment of the side, depending on their performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Seeing the odd timing of the statement by the PCB, a senior Pakistan player has stated that the board does not want the side to win and wants the "team to fail".
"The board wants the team to fail; they don't want us to win the World Cup just so that they can make the changes and take control of who leads the team and who gets into the team," a senior player told Cricbuzz on the condition of anonymity.
Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur, well aware of the issues going both outside and inside the team, backed Babar and Co. amidst the slew of losses for the side, calling out the stakeholders for starting a "witch hunt" against the players and team management.

"They (PCB) are going to be blaming everybody, don't worry. It's just the way of the world... It's really unfair to start a witch hunt, certainly on Babar Azam, on Inzi [Inzamam-ul-Haq], on our coaches, on the management team. What I do know is the boys have tried and the effort of the coaching staff, and the effort of the players has been first-class. If they would see the amount of effort that the players and staff put in, they would be amazed," he said.
Pakistan gears up to take on Bangladesh
Pakistan will be gearing up to get back to winning ways. For their next assignment, the Men in Green will be going up against Bangladesh in the 31st game of the 2023 World Cup. Both sides will face each other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on October 31.
On the back of a close game against South Africa where Pakistan succumbed to a heavy loss, the side will look to improve, put in a good performance against Bangladesh, and get back to winning ways. As the clash approaches, it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top in Kolkata.
