The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a change in venues for the tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa. Initially scheduled to be held in Multan, the matches will now take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. The decision was made to upgrade cricketing infrastructure ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Both the Gaddafi Stadium and the National Bank Stadium are undergoing significant renovations to enhance player and spectator experiences. The renovations are part of a broader effort to bring Pakistan’s venues up to international standards, ensuring they are ready to host global events.

"Given the advanced stage of preparations at the Gaddafi Stadium and the National Bank Stadium, the PCB has decided to relocate the upcoming tri-nation ODI series to these two venues. The series, featuring New Zealand and South Africa alongside Pakistan, was originally scheduled to be held in Multan," the PCB said in a statement.

“This decision reflects the PCB’s confidence in the readiness of these upgraded venues and their ability to deliver a world-class experience for players, officials, and fans alike,” the statement added.

Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium's seating capacity has been expanded to accommodate 35,000 fans, with upgraded seating arrangements. To cater to high-quality broadcast requirements, 480 advanced LED lights and two state-of-the-art digital replay screens have also been installed. A new hospitality enclosure for players and officials is also nearing completion, with the venue set to be fully operational by late January.

Similarly, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium has also undergone improvements. The installation of 350 LED lights will ensure better visibility for global broadcasts. The addition of 5,000 new seats and a hospitality area at the University End further will enhance the fan experience.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is also being upgraded, with plans to add 10,000 new chairs, improve hospitality boxes, and install two digital replay screens. Over 250 workers are engaged across venues, to meet the January 25 deadline.

An ICC delegation has been actively inspecting the developments to ensure Pakistan meets international standards. Their recent visit to Karachi included a review of a new five-story building at the National Bank Stadium and various other facilities in preparation for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19.
