Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to host a tri-series among South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan as PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently held a meeting with the chairman of the respective cricket boards. Cricket South Africa (CSA), Chairman, Mr Lawson Naidoo and the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Chairman, Mr Roger Twose discussed with Naqvi about holding a tri-series among the three cricketing nations on Friday, March 15.
The Tri-series was finalised in mutual agreement of the member boards and is scheduled to be played in February 2025 in Pakistan, just ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. Notably, it will be the first tri-series to be played in the country since October 2004 when Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe competed with the hosts Pakistan.
Upon finalization of the series, Naqvi expressed excitement to host a tri-nation tournament after a long gap and thanked NZC and CSA for their support. He further said that PCB is also eager to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
“The Tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand will be an exciting event and it is after a long time that Pakistan will host such a tournament. I would like to thank the heads of NZC and CSA for agreeing to participate in the Tri-series. The PCB is also looking forward to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which will be a great pleasure for Pakistan to host the top eight ODI teams on its soil,” said Mohsin Naqvi in a statement.
India to not travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025
Meanwhile, Pakistan signed the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy 2025 in December 2023. However, there’s a high possibility of the tournament being moved out of the country or might be hosted in a hybrid manner due to uncordial political relations with India.

The Men in Blue haven’t travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and are once again expected to pull out of the tournament if it takes place in the rival country. Hence, the ICC (International Cricket Council) is expected to mediate between the two boards to host the tournament keeping everyone’s interest in mind.
