The Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament is all set to get underway in Sylhet from October 1 and Pakistan have named their 15-member squad for the tournament alongside four reserve players. Sidra Amin and Sidra Nawaz have been recalled to the squad on account of their recent practice game performances while the names to miss out from the previous assignment were Anam Amin, Gul Feroza and Iram Javed.

Another notable inclusion has been all-rounder Sadaf Shamas who is yet to make her international debut. She was quite impressive in the practice games for Pakistan and is seen a handy batter down the order apart from medium fast bowling skills. Bismah Maroof will continue to lead the side while the regular names returned.

These players have been selected after observing their performances: Pakistan selector

Pakistan women’s team selector Asmavia Iqbal mentioned that the team has been selected on the basis of recent performances. She went on to note the quality Sidra Amin brings at the top of the order and highlighted her recent form which brought about her recall. On Sidra Nawaz, Iqbal mentioned the need of a backup wicketkeeper for a long tournament.

“I want to congratulate the 15 players selected for the all-important Asia Cup next month. These players have been selected after observing their performances in the recent practice matches in Lahore,” selector Asmavia Iqbal was quoted as saying by PCB.com

“Sidra Amin has been in good form of-late. She did well in the practice matches and became only the second Pakistan women batter to score two ODI centuries recently. Her presence at the top of the order will instil stability.”

“We have also selected an additional keeper in Sidra Nawaz because of the long duration of the tournament. On these tracks, we need a specialist wicketkeeper as a backup for Muneeba Ali, in case she becomes unavailable,” she added.
