Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi set for speedy return after two weeks of rehabilitation

Pakistan cricket team has received a major boost ahead of their impending Test series against the Three Lions as star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is set to return to action following two weeks of rehabilitation, according to the PCB. 

The 22-year-old was in discomfort after landing heavingly on his knee while completing a catch in the final of the T20 World Cup against England. It was feared that the fast bowling sensation had re-aggravated the knee injury that he sustained earlier in July. However, the PCB has revealed the injury is not as serious as previously thought, and the pacer will be back in action after a couple of weeks of rehabilitation.

"The scan conducted on Monday morning prior to the team’s departure for Pakistan, has confirmed there were no signs of an injury and the knee discomfort was likely “due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing”. The scans were discussed between PCB’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro, and Australian knee specialist, Dr Peter D’Alessandro, and it was reassuring to know that there was no injury. The left-arm fast bowler is feeling better and is in high spirits," an official statement in the PCB revealed.

Regarding the timeframe of Shaheen Afridi's return to cricket, the PCB stated that the left arm quick's fitness will be assessed after his slated rehabilitation and conditioning program that will take place at the National High-Performance Centre in Pakistan.

It is worth noting that Afridi was unable to complete his full quota of four overs in the final at the MCG and hobbled off the ground after sustaining the injury. His absence was a killer blow to Pakistan's winning chances as Jos Buttler's men eventually triumphed in the summit clash to clinch their second T20 title. However, both sides will go at each other once again next month with the Three Lions visiting the subcontinent nation for a three-match Test series, commencing on December 1.
