Paras Mhambrey likely to join Mumbai Indians as bowling coach
The former right-arm medium pacer was part of the coaching setup of the joint-most successful franchise in the inaugural edition of the IPL.
IPL franchise Mumbai Indians have acquired the services of Mumbai-born former India pacer, Paras Mhambrey. The 52-year-old was part of the coaching team of MI way back in 2008.
The five-time champions have Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lankan luminary who represented the Mumbai-based franchise for nine seasons, as their current bowling coach. The entire coaching team is headed by head coach Mark Boucher. As per a The Times of India report, Mhambrey will be anticipated to work in conjunction with Malinga to finetune the bowling unit, and in particular, the pacers.
Notably, Mhambrey has served as the bowling coach for the Indian team from 2021 up until 2024. During that span, he worked alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, two of MI's pivotal components. He has also worked alongside Rahul Dravid when he was involved with the India U-19 side, and is expected to bring in all his expertise into the job.
Dravid's contract, which was originally supposed to end after the 50-over World Cup last year, came to an end post winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Along with him, Mhambrey's stint ended as well as he was replaced by Morne Morkel. Mhambrey had replaced Bharat Arun in 2021.
