The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is looming on the horizon, and with the auction of the marquee event being held in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19, Punjab Kings had a lacklustre start to the event but made up for it by the end.

The franchise had many bidding battles in the auction, going after the likes of Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell. They roped in star Indian pacer Harshal Patel for INR 11.75 crore while they got Chris Woakes for INR 4.2 crore. 

It is worth noting that Punjab Kings are still in search of their first IPL title. Despite coming close on a few occasions, the side has never managed to go all the way. However, with some fine additions to their squad, they will look to put in an improved performance in 2024.

After bringing in Harshal Patel, Punjab Kings went after England all-rounder Chris Woakes and secured his services for INR 4.2 crore.

Punjab Kings aim to do better after forgettable 2023

Still in search of their first IPL title, Punjab Kings will hope that their new signings do the job for them. The side had a forgettable season in the 16th edition of the IPL, as they once again failed to make it to the knockout stages of the competition.

Finishing in eighth place in the standings, Punjab Kings won six of the 14 matches and lost the remaining eight, finishing with 12 points in 14 games. However, with the likes of Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Chris Woakes as their new signings, Punjab Kings will hope for a memorable season of the IPL in 2024.
