The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced the appointment of five cricket legends as mentors for the upcoming domestic competitions. This initiative is to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket while nurturing the next generation of Pakistani cricketers.
The PCB's decision comes as part of its ongoing efforts to revamp and strengthen the domestic cricket system in the country. By bringing in experienced mentors, the board hopes to elevate the standard of play and provide valuable guidance to emerging talents.
The five mentors appointed are Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. These cricket icons bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles, having represented the Men in Green at the highest level and achieved significant success in their respective careers.

Pleased to welcome five exceptional champions as mentors: Mohsin Naqvi
Their first assignment will be the Champions One-Day Cup, scheduled to take place from September 12 to 29 in Faisalabad. This tournament will see the mentors working with domestic players and teams. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative.
"I am pleased to welcome five exceptional champions as mentors for the Champions Cup teams. These individuals bring a wealth of cricketing experience, knowledge, and expertise, which, combined with their passion for the game we all love, will help the Pakistan Cricket Board identify, develop, and nurture the next generation of cricketers across all formats. This initiative will not only benefit the Pakistan men's cricket team but also help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket," PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement.

Waqar, who was recently appointed as an advisor to the PCB chairman on cricket affairs, has taken up the mentorship role. The PCB has not provided specific reasons for this change but suggests that the former pacer might be better suited for a team-building role with more active involvement in player development.
