Former Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has been appointed as head of the junior selection committee by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Notably, the left-arm seamer made his international debut during a T20I against India in 2007 and went on to play 2 Tests, 62 ODIs and 57 T20Is for his nation and picked 130 wickets across formats. He was also a part of Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup winning squad.

Tanvir’s first task as chairperson of the junior selection committee will be to select the Pakistan U19 squad for the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup scheduled to be held between 8 and 17 December in UAE. The Pakistan U19 team will later take part in the ICC U19 World Cup from 13 January to 4 February in Sri Lanka.

“I am truly honoured and grateful for the opportunity provided by the Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf to serve as head of the junior selection committee. Being appointed chairman of this committee is a huge responsibility and I am looking forward to this exciting challenge. I believe in the potential of our young talent and we collaboratively aim to build a pathway for success from the grassroots to the international level,” Tanvir was quoted as saying by the PCB.

PCB going through major overhaul after ODI World Cup 2023

Notably, the PCB has made several changes to their management following their team’s dismal performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 where they failed to qualify for the semi-final of the tournament. After the resignation of the former chief selector Inzamam ul Haq, former fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been given his position.

Furthermore, former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as the Team Director of Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team. Apart from the management, there has been a change in the Pakistan cricket team’s leadership across all three formats as well, as Babar Azam recently stepped down from captaincy after the dismal performance of his side in the World Cup.

Following Babar’s resignation, Shan Masood has been named the new Test captain while fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been given the duties of T20I captaincy. However, the PCB is yet to reveal the new captain of the Pakistan ODI team.
