PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi 'upset' over inaccurate diagnosis of young pacer Ihsanullah's injury

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, expressed his displeasure with board's medical panel's handling of Ihsanullah's injury. The 21-year-old pacer, who garnered a lot of attention during the 2023 Pakistan Super League (PSL), took part in the subsequent three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Sharjah and two ODIs against New Zealand at home. Following the series against the BlackCaps, he sustained an elbow injury and has been sidelined since, missing significant tournaments like the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup in the same year.

Regrettably, an inaccurate diagnosis of the youngster's injury and a mishandled surgery in Lahore occurred and it will take more time for him to completely recover. The surgery was performed at a private hospital in Lahore. As per a PCB insider, the initial diagnosis was conducted by a senior doctor from PCB's medical panel, leading to wasted time attempting his rehabilitation without surgery. After the surgery, the doctors at his PSL franchise, Multan Sultans, determined that he needed to seek treatment from a specialist in the UK.

Notably, Ali Tareen, Multan Sultans' owner, has obtained PCB's approval to send Ihsanullah to London for advanced consultation and treatment. However, this decision has caused displeasure to Naqvi, who feels that it was the responsibility of the board officials and medical panel to ensure proper care for the star pacer.

“Mohsin Naqvi is very upset after this incident came out in the open and he came to know about it. Chances are that some of the officials responsible for supervising Ehsan’s treatment will find themselves out of jobs very soon,” the source said as quoted by News 18.

Ali Tareen has recently stated that the franchise has assumed all expenses for Ihsanullah's treatment overseas, including living costs. Additionally, the franchise also provided accommodations for the youngster and his family during his rehabilitation period in Lahore.

“While Ihsan was doing rehab in NCA Lahore, he was staying in an apartment with his family. All rent and living expenses were paid by MS. We retained him in the PSL even though he was injured so he could spend time with our Physios and S&C. We are flying him to England this month to be assessed by a world-renowned surgeon. Ihsan is currently back home in Swat because he wanted to spend time with his family before the upcoming UK trip,” Tareen wrote on X.
