PCB set to conduct first ever women trials in Sost valley
“These trials will help the selectors discover and develop the next generation of women’s cricketers," Shafiq said.
The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) is aiming to unearth grass-roots talent and is all set to organise open trials for women across the country starting Monday, August 5. Among the 14 cities, PCB will be hosting the first-ever women’s cricket trials in the Sost Valley.
The Sost Valley is a region in Pakistan known for its picturesque landscapes and passionate cricketing community, and the initiative will help the PCB explore women’s talent in far-flung areas.
It is worth noting that the trials will be held in two phases, with Gilgit, Hunza, and Sost hosting trials from August 5 to August 7. The second phase of the same will begin on August 21 and conclude on September 3. Also, if there is rain in any of the cities, the trials in that respective city will be conducted between September 4 and 5.
Members of the women’s national selection committee, Asad Shafiq and Batool Fatima, will be the ones responsible for holding the trials in the country. In the second phase, players will be able to register themselves for the trials online.

Speaking of the same, Asad Shafiq opined that the board wants to ensure that talent from every corner of the world gets a chance to shine and that the process will help them represent domestic teams, which will pave their way onto the national team.
“These trials will help the selectors discover and develop the next generation of women’s cricketers. We are keen to ensure that talent from every corner of the country gets a fair chance to shine. This process will enable them to represent domestic teams, ultimately leading them to play for the national sides in the future,” Shafiq was quoted as saying by the PCB.
“The open trials are a crucial step in our efforts to nurture young talent. We are excited to see the future stars of women's cricket come forward and showcase their potential. I will urge all parents to support their daughters in pursuing their cricket dreams by helping them participate in the nationwide selection trials,” Batool Fatima said.
