Pakistan Cricket Board might have to sign up with job posting sites to find coaches for their national team.  While many big names from the cricketing fraternity have declined to take coaching services, the PCN now aims to have a hybrid model for the coaches for the Pakistan cricket team. PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi has desired a foreign coach but stressed a Pakistani assistant for the coach.

Former Australia player Shane Watson was reportedly in talks with the PCB for a head coach role. The deal if it had fruition on time, would have seen the veteran cricketer earning 2 million dollars annually.  Naqvi claimed that the intrusiveness of the media led to the decline of the deal. However, Watson continues to coach Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League.

By the proceeding of the PCB, it is evident that they are leaning towards an Australian for the coaching responsibilities. While Watson was the big fish, the likes of Simon Katich and Justin Langer too showed no interest in coaching the Pakistan national team. The board even initiated a conversation with New Zealand’s Mike Hesson only to go in vain.

PCB do not want their former stars as coaches

The sources revealed that the board had approached former England coach Andy Flower and reportedly declined the offer. Their PSL star Daren Sammy was another option they explored, but his contract with the West Indies board came in between and he made himself unavailable. Notably, Mathew Hayden has also been approached by the board and he was previously part of the coaching staff.

The PCB are adamant that they do not want their former stars to take the coaching reigns. As Azhar Mahmood, presently residing in England has revealed that there has been no contact made from the board’s side on the coaching stint. The issue further complexes with the fact that most of the coaches are either committed to IPL or abstain from the hierarchy they have been subjected to if taken responsibility.
