There was a lot of drama ahead of the Champions Trophy tournament, which had to settle for the hybrid model with the Indian team playing their matches in Dubai since the BCCI did not allow the team to travel in the neighboring nation due to security reasons. These circumstances could have also led to India not participating in the event as well.
Though the Indian team has performed well and has qualified for the semi-final, the claims made by the players and the board are being speculated since all the sides have been playing in Pakistan without much inconvenience. However, Former India legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has shared his opinion on this matter, mentioning some security lapses during the tournament and bringing up incidents of fans breaching the security. Gavaskar's statement is enough to talk about the discrepancies in the security of the venues during the ICC event.
“Even in this tournament, we say that people were able to breach security and run onto the ground while the match was going on. I think it happened during the Afghanistan game. When you see such incidents, it is almost impossible for any government to give the Indian team the permission to travel to Pakistan," The former India skipper said on Sports Today.
India-Pakistan fixture turns one-sided
The India vs Pakistan match in Dubai was one of the most hyped matches in the tournament, which ended up being a one-sided game in the end. Pakistan could only manage to score 241 runs, which the Indian team chased down with ease thanks to a great century from India legend Virat Kohli.
This was the sixth time the two teams faced each other in the ICC Champions Trophy. Before this, Pakistan had a one-game lead over the Men in Blue, but India made it 3-3 during the ongoing tournament, where the Men In Blue beat them by six wickets.
