'Perfect platform for players of weak teams' - Vijay Dahiya highlights the importance of IPL
Vijay Dahiya highlighted the exposure IPL has provided the Afghan players over the years.
The Afghanistan team has displayed tremendous application and skill in the Asia Cup so far and former Indian cricketer Vijay Dahiya credits the IPL for their recent performance in the ongoing tournament. Mohammad Nabi's men have played a fearless brand of cricket in the T20Is and will pose a threat to the bigger teams in the latter stages of the tournament.
The Indian Premier League has catapulted several Indian cricketers to the international arena over the years. But many overseas players have also made use of the opportunity of playing alongside some of the biggest players in the world which has enhanced their reputation in international cricket.
In a conversation with CricTracker on BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show, the former Indian wicketkeeper Vijay Dahiya highlighted the exposure the IPL has provided the Afghan players over the years, which has improved their game drastically. He further stated that the players from the lesser-known teams can use the IPL to get exposed to high-quality cricket and can use that experience to improve on the international stage.
"Afghanistan Players have made full use of their IPL exposure which in turn have improved their performance in international cricket. IPL is the perfect platform for players of weak teams to get exposure to high-quality cricket and use that experience to improve their performance,” Vijay Dahiya said to CricTracker.
Nikkhil Chopra revealed his excitement about Afghansitan's fearless cricket
Earlier, another former Indian cricketer, Nikkhil Chopra, had praised Afghanistan for their fearless brand of cricket in the shortest format of the game, which has yielded great results for the Asian side. He reckoned that their positive intent and clear mindset have helped their bowlers and batters perform well in the tournament.
"I am always excited to watch this (Afghanistan) team because if you look at the T20 format, the 120-ball in each innings format, it allows you to express yourself and the whole Afghani team looks positive. The batters look to score as many runs as possible with a clear mindset. When they come to bowl, of course, they have got quality spin, but even Farooqi is looking to take wickets," Chopra had said when asked about Afghanistan's domination against Sri Lanka in the first match of the Asia Cup.
