Keeping aside the series opener in Perth, the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has not been a memorable affair for the Indian team. After going 0-1 down, hosts ustralia managed to register a comfortable 10-wicket victory in the second Test of the series in Adelaide. They have now managed to maintain a stronghold against India in Brisbane in the third Test, with the series levelled at 1-1.
After rain washed out day 1 of the third Test, Australia continued their innings on day 2 Travis Head continued his domination against India while veteran batter Steve Smith managed to find form as well. After scoring 19 runs in the first two matches, Smith scored his 33rd Test century (101 off 190) in a hard-fought knock. After his brilliant performance, the star batter reflected on his effort, stating that he kept believing in himself even during the rough patch.
I’ve been trusting it will turn around: Steve Smith
"I’ve played long enough to know the game turns. You’ve got to keep the faith. I rode my luck today, got beaten a few times … on another day I might nick one. I felt like I was playing well. It was nice to get some rewards. It’s been a little while. It was cool to contribute today. I had a couple of nice balls and got strangled down the leg side. I feel like I’ve been batting well the last month. I’ve been trusting it will turn around,” Smith said.
Speaking of Smith, he went past legendary Steve Waugh's century tally (32) for the record of most Test centuries by an Australian. Only Ricky Ponting, with 41 centuries, is ahead of Smith now. Meanwhile, Day 2 of the third Test ended with Australia on a score of 405/7. India will hope to dismiss the remaining batters as fast as possible and come out to bat.
