Poor Ranji outing won't dent Rohit Sharma's confidence for Champions Trophy: Dinesh Karthik
Rohit recently featured for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy clash against Jammu & Kashmir.
Rohit Sharma has been under the pump of late. This has been due to his substandard performances with the bat in Tests in the previous few months. His dip in batting started as early as the home series against Bangladesh. Despite India winning the series, the performances from his end were underwhelming. A 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand at home followed by India losing two of the three Tests under his captaincy in Australia have further put Rohit under the scanner.
Former Indian cricketer, Dinesh Karthik, felt Rohit's recent outing against Jammu & Kashmir would not act as a hindrance in terms of morale for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
"It will not dent his confidence for the Champions Trophy. He is just trying to get into a rhythm. I mean, I don't think his confidence can get any more dented than it was in Australia. I've played at the BKC (MCA's ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex), I'm surprised Mumbai won the toss and chose to bat. In the second innings, I thought Rohit played a few nice shots," shared Karthik while speaking on Cricbuzz.
For the unversed, Rohit managed to score only 3 and 28 on his Ranji Trophy comeback after a protracted period of nine years. Both the dismissals involved the Mumbai-born batter being caught by the J&K fielders. Mumbai ended up on the losing side by getting defeated by five wickets despite a Shardul Thakur century in their second innings.
As far as Rohit's obligations with the national setup is concerned, he will shortly feature in the three ODIs against England. Subsequent to this, he will be at the helm for the imminent Champions Trophy 2025 tournament. India are scheduled to play all their games in the United Arab Emirates. Understandably, a lot of expectations will be placed on Rohit and Co.'s shoulders to play an improved brand of cricket in the marquee ODI tournament.
