Pragyan Ojha expected to leave IPL Governing Council, decision to be taken at BCCI Annual General Meeting

It is understood that former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha will be stepping down from the players' representative role in the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The decision is likely to be taken during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Goa on September 25. Along with the alteration to the Governing Council of the IPL, BCCI might also make decisions regarding the formation of a Governing Council for the Women's Premier League (WPL).  

The former Indian spinner has served the Governing Council for three years. However, last year he was elected to the body by the Indian Cricketers' Association (CA). Moreover, the AGM points to this matter indirectly. The third item on the AGM agenda states, "Induction of 1 (one) representative of the Indian Cricketers' Association in the Governing Council of the IPL."

According to a Cricbuzz report, Ojha is seto  leave his position voluntarily and ICA will conduct a fresh election to nominate a new representative to the council. The agenda for the meeting also includes the item which states, "Election and induction of 2 (two) representatives of the General Body in the Governing Council of the IPL." 

However, the current members Arun Singh Dhumal from the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) and Avishek Dalmiya from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) are expected to continue their roles in the Governing Council. 

The nomination of the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer is also on the agenda, but the assessment of the men's selection committee may be the most important matter to be discussed during the meeting. It has been suggested that the committee might be reconstituted by December with a few modifications and that a decision on this matter might be made at the general body meeting. In addition, Ajit Agarkar will continue to serve as chairman of the council.
