Tamim Iqbal has heaped praise on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for ensuring Indian team’s success over the years. Tamim compared the BCCI with the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) and opined that the board’s vision must match with everyone involved to win and succeed.
India have been incredibly successful of late, reaching to the 2021 and 2023 World Test Championship finals, the summit clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 and having won the 2024 T20 World Cup. On the other hand, Bangladesh have flattered to deceive more often than not, especially at ICC tournaments.
"The people at the top need to have a clear plan in terms of what they want to achieve. The captain wants to win the trophy, the coach wants to win the trophy, but the question is - does the Board want it, too? In India, you can praise Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as much as you can, but had the BCCI not been that strong, the team wouldn’t have achieved so much," Tamim Iqbal told Sportstar.
You have to give him a certain period of time and then judge: Tamim Iqbal
Tamim compared the current BCB regime to the previous one and admitted that the former stakeholders of the board did not do everything wrong. He added that there might have been differences between him and a few at the BCB, but acknowledged their achievements.
"Look, there are ifs and buts to it. In the previous BCB regime, there were three former captains involved in the administration. Did the last Board do everything wrong? No, they also did a lot of good things, you cannot deny that. I might have had issues with two or three people at the BCB, but that does not mean that they don’t have any achievements. This time, the president is also a cricketer, so you have to give him a certain period of time and then judge,” Iqbal said.
