‘Pretty special, didn’t know about it’ - Josh Inglis reacts after becoming fastest Australian centurion in T20Is

Keeper-batter Josh Inglis smashed a cracking 43-ball century as Australia defeated Scotland by 70 runs in the second T20I of the series. Batting first, the visitors lost the wicket of Travis Head in the second over of the game and soon after that, Jake Fraser-McGurk too went back to the pavilion. Interestingly, Inglis was promoted to number three to get more game time and he wreaked havoc, smashing 103 runs off 49 deliveries.

Inglis also became the fastest Australian T20I centurion. Courtesy of his ferocious knock, Australia posted 196 runs in the first innings. Cameron Green supported him well in the middle with 36 runs off 29 deliveries while Stoinis made 20 runs and Tim David played a cameo of 17* runs off seven balls. 

Meanwhile, after the game, Inglis noted that he had no idea about hitting the fastest century and called it pretty special after knowing it. He talked about his partnership with Green and added that batting got easier once the ball wore off. However, even after the century, Inglis understands the difficulty of sealing the spot in the team, given immense competition.

“Pretty special to be honest. I didn't know about it. To hold that record now, it's really nice. Doesn't happen too often, there was a bit happening early doors, we lost a couple of wickets. Me and Greeny spoke about building a partnership,” Inglis said in the post-match conference.

“Once the new ball wore off, it got easier in the middle period. Was just looking to play good cricket shots and show some good intent. Really good opportunity for me to get some game time in and try to cement my place in the squad. Really tough, a lot of good players in the squad,” he added.

The way Inglis played was unbelievable: Mitch Marsh

Captain Mitch Marsh was impressed with Inglis’ century in the second T20I. He called it an unbelievable knock and stated that Green and Inglis bailed Australia out of trouble in Edinburgh.

“It was a really good game of cricket. The way Inglis and Green bailed us out of trouble and the way Inglis played was unbelievable. I think we got a youngish group here and we also spoke about flexibility in the whole tour,” Marsh said.
