New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra is having quite the start to his international cricket career. In the 43 games that he has played for New Zealand across formats so far, the 24-year-old has amassed 994 runs to his name and taken 31 wickets.
Furthermore, Ravindra put in a magnificent performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, which was won by Australia. However, Ravindra put his name on the map, scoring 578 runs in 10 World Cup games. The 24-year-old was one of the highest run-getters of the tournament.
Speaking of his international cricket career so far, Ravindra described the feeling as surreal and highlighted how quickly things have progressed for him on the biggest stage.
"Pretty surreal; things have happened quite quickly, and I am very fortunate to be here right now. At my age, being able to travel around the world playing cricket—playing a game you love—for a living is pretty special. [It definitely has its ups and downs, but mostly I love every single moment," Rachin Ravindra was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
"Look, I think it's a testament to the team environment to be able to come in and play with freedom and enjoy my time learning from those guys who have been here for so long. It's been great to rub shoulders with everyone, and hopefully I can keep learning from them,” he added.
I enjoy going back to red-ball cricket after that: Ravindra
Furthermore, Rachin Ravindra also talked about how much he enjoys transitioning from white-ball to red-ball cricket. Ahead of the Black Caps’ Test series against Bangladesh, the star all-rounder opined that he looks forward to New Zealand’s Test assignments.
"I enjoy going back to red-ball cricket after that (ODIs), because that means your intent... You are almost looking to score, so, I mean, [it] keeps you in a good position to score, but probably here [in Bangladesh] it depends on the conditions and what the pitch is doing; it's probably going to dial that back a little bit, not as many risks. You can still play your natural game by understanding the surface and the situation of the game,” he added.
