Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer included in Mumbai's probables for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

The Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) consisting of Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti has selected a list of 28 players as probables for the forthcoming edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

The list includes names like ace batter Prithvi Shaw, who has been out of favour in the ongoing Ranji Trophy's Round 5 clash for the 42-time champion side. Meanwhile, senior batter Ajinkya Rahane has also found a spot, while other big names like Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Shams Mulani are also present. Star all-rounder Tanush Kotian, however, is surprisingly missing from the probables.

Hardik Tamore and Aakash Anand, the two wicketkeeping options have been chosen to don the gloves at the premier domestic T20 tournament. Meanwhile, teenager Ayush Mhatre who has already impressed with his debut Ranji season has been included to be a part of the likely squad for the tournament.

The players named among probables were notified to report the association at the MCA Academy, BKC on Saturday, November 09, just before the Day 4 of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 game between Mumbai and Odisha.

SMAT to commence on November 23

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will see its 2024 edition being played across India's domestic teams. Mumbai have been placed in the Group E, where teams like Goa, Kerala, Services, Maharashtra, and Nagaland are also present. The first round of the tournament will begin on Saturday, November 23 and the Final will be played on December 15.

Furthermore, Mumbai will start their season with a game against neighbours Goa. The venue for the clash is expected to be announced soon.
