The Match 28 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 saw a thrilling finish as Quetta Gladiators beat Lahore Qalandars on the last ball on Sunday, March 10 at National Stadium, Karachi. Chasing a target of 167, Gladiators 14 off the last over bowled by Shaheen Afridi and were put on the back foot as the left arm seamer dismissed Laurie Evans (7 off 4) off the first ball.
The equation further came down to four needed off the last ball as Saud Shakeel (88* off 55) hit consecutive fours off his first two balls. However, he failed to farm the strike on the last ball leaving Mohammed Wasim Jr with a herculean task of scoring a boundary to seal the one. The 22-year-old held his nerve and dispatched a short delivery over deep backward square leg for a maximum and sealed a thrilling win for his side.
As a result, the entire Quetta dressing room was sent into a frenzy and even their batting consultant, legendary Viv Richards stormed onto the field to celebrate their victory. The entire team was seen jubilantly hugging Wasim as Quetta sealed their spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Earlier in the day, after opting to bat first, Lahore Qalandars posted a good score of 166/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Openers Sahibzada Farhan (25 off 22) and Mirza Baig (12 off 13) put on a 38-run stand for Lahore off 33 balls.

Following their dismissals, Shai Hope (5 off 7) also departed cheaply leaving Lahore on 69/3 after 9.4 overs. Seeing their team in trouble, Asad Shafique (59* off 39) and captain Shaheen Afridi (55 off 34) got involved in a massive 91-run stand off 57 balls to help their team finish on 166/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Meanwhile, following their loss, Lahore were eliminated from the ongoing season as they finished on the last spot with just one win from ten matches having three points to their name. On the other hand, Quetta still have one more league game remaining against Multan Sultans on March 12. The Rilee Rossouw-led side will aim to finish higher on the points table with another win in the last game.
