Quetta Gladiators off-spinner Usman Tariq has got into trouble as he has been reported for suspect bowling action during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 13. The 27-year-old is at risk of being banned from bowling again in the future.

The Gladiators suffered a disappointing loss against the Lahore Qalandars, and it seemed like there is a chance that one of their players is at risk of missing out on most of the tournament. Usman Tariq has been reported for the second time for his action, the previous instance being PSL 2024. This time it was flagged by the on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown.

The PCB has also issued a statement saying that Tariq can continue to bowl in the upcoming matches, but if the off-spinner is reported once again, there might be chances that he will be suspended from bowling and will need to obtain clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“As per the rules, Usman can continue to bowl in future (PSL) matches, However, if he is reported again, he will be suspended from bowling and will need to obtain clearance from an ICC-accredited lab before he can resume bowling,” the PCB stated, as quoted by The Times of India.

What happened in the game?

It was Lahore Qalandars who batted first in the game and scored 219 runs in the first innings, thanks to the half-centuries from Fakhar Zaman (67 off 39 deliveries) and Sam Billings (50* off 19 deliveries) along with some quickfire cameos from Abdullah Shafique and Daryl Mitchell. Usman was the most economical bowler of the gladiators with figures of 1/31 in his four overs.

The Saud Shakeel-led side was never in the game in the second innings as they were bowled out for just 140 in the end and lost the match by 79 runs. The only innings which had a bit of substance for the Quetta team was from South African batter Rilee Rossouw with 44 runs off just 19 deliveries.
