Ravichandran Ashwin has jumped to the second spot in the latest ICC Men's Test Bowler Rankings after taking eight wickets against Australia in Nagpur Test. He is closing in on Australian red-ball team captain Pat Cummins, who is just 21 points ahead. Ravindra Jadeja, the Player of the Match in the first Test, also rose in the bowler's chart in the latest ICC rankings.
Ashwin, now with 846 points, cleared out James Anderson and Stuart Broad and could replace Cummins if continues to dominate in the remaining Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Ashwin took three scalps in the first inning followed by a brilliant fifer in the second, to help India bowl out the Kangaroos for just 91 runs in Nagpur. Apart from Ashwin, only Jasprit Bumrah, at no. 5, ranks in the top 10 bowlers in the rankings.
Meanwhile, it was Jadeja who went home with a Player of the Match award after an impressive performance with both bat and ball. He took five wickets in the first innings, including big ones of Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. He also shone with a bat with a 70-run knock and cemented his top spot in the Men's Test All-rounder chart. He currently ranks 16th in the bowler's chart.
Jadeja and Ashwin also occupy the first two spots in Test all-rounder's chart while Axar Patel, who scored a crucial 84 in Nagpur, gained six places to boost to the seventh spot in the rankings.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma also jumped two places from tenth to eighth in Test Batter rankings. He top-scored 120 off 212 in Nagpur, where the rest of the batters struggled to find any momentum. Rohit is just three points behind Rishabh Pant, with no other Indian player among top ten in Test batter's chart.
Australia's Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith dominate the chart, but a struggling David Warner and Usman Khawaja slipped in rankings. Warner, with scores of 1 & 10 in the Nagpur Test, has fallen six places to the 20th spot while Khawaja has dropped two spots to the 10th.
