Rahmanullah Gurbaz hits 2nd fastest hundred by Afghanistan batter
Afghanistan defeated the UAE by 72 runs in the first T20I of the series.
Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz put in a brilliant performance against the UAE in the first T20I of the ongoing series. Scoring 100 runs in 52 deliveries, Gurbaz hit the second-fastest ton by any Afghanistan batter and helped his side win the game as well.
Gurbaz’s ton helped Afghanistan post a mammoth total of 203 runs in the first innings. Both sides took on each other at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, December 29 for the first T20I of their three-game series and the clash began with Afghanistan batting first after losing the toss.
The side got off to a horrid start as they lost their opener Hazratullah Zazai for just 13 runs. However, Gurbaz’s century stabilised the innings for the side, and skipper Ibrahim Zadran added 59 runs on the board as Afghanistan posted 203 runs on the board in the first innings and eventually limited the UAE for just 131 runs, winning the game by 72 runs.
I feel really excited: Gurbaz
Talking of his knock, Gurbaz came forward to opine that he was feeling very excited and that he always dreamt of scoring a century in T20I cricket. He did also talk of rotating the strike regularly and attacking every loose ball.
“I feel really excited. I dreamt of a hundred in a T20I so I’m excited. My plan was to give strike to Hazratullah and whenever I got a loose ball, my plan was to be in as wicket was not easy. The crowd supports us everywhere, they support both teams and that is the amazing thing. Thanks to them and I hope they come for the next game. I have played good knocks but in T20s I can say this one is a special one,” Gurbaz was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.
