With the T20 World Cup 2024 looming on the horizon, fans lie in wait to see the Indian team in action once again in the marquee tournament. After having lost the summit clash of the ODI World Cup in 2023, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be hopeful of doing better in the shortest format.
With the tournament approaching, there have been many discussions over who will be the head coach of the Men in Blue for the tournament. It is interesting to note that current head coach Rahul Dravid’s contract was up after the ODI World Cup 2023, but he was asked to continue in his role along with other support staff for the December-January tour to South Africa without finalising the tenure.
However, according to BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India)’s secretary, Jay Shah, Dravid will be the head coach of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 as well.
“After the 2023 World Cup, Rahul bhai had to leave for the South Africa tour immediately. We did not get to meet in between which finally happened today, why are you worried about a contract for such a senior person like Rahul Dravid? Rahul bhai will remain the coach in the T20 World Cup,” Jay Shah was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
I will speak with him whenever there is time: Shah
Furthermore, Jay Shah opined that there will be more rounds of discussion before the T20 World Cup and that he will talk to Dravid about the same whenever he gets the time.
“I will speak with him whenever there is time, there are back-to-back series happening right now. They were in South Africa, then there was a (T20I) series against Afghanistan (at home), and now England. We did not get to speak in between at all,” Shah said.
Recently, the BCCI secretary also confirmed that veteran batter Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian team in the T20 World Cup, and after the heartbreaking ODI World Cup loss, the Men in Blue will be looking for redemption.
