Rahul Dravid joined as the head coach of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in 2021. He was selected to coach the team in the 2022 T20 World Cup and then in the 2023 ODI World Cup. With the end of the latter, Rahul's contract with BCCI too came to an end. After the final, the legendary cricketer confirmed that he has not yet finalized his future with the Indian team as BCCI is expected to decide soon as the T20I series against Australia is just around the corner.

After Ravi Shastri called his time as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to shake things up as Rohit Sharma was appointed as the white-ball skipper, while Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the team. Dravid, who had done a remarkable job with NCA and with the U19 team wasn’t ready to take over the national team, but then BCCI president and his former teammate Sourav Ganguly convinced him as he was appointed for the next two years.

The target that was set in front of him was the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the ODI World Cup in 2023. Under the leadership of Dravid, the Indian team failed to clinch either of the trophies as the Men in Blue were eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the semi-final while losing to Australia in the finals of the ODI World Cup. Following this, Dravid’s contract with BCCI has come to an end.

After a heartbreaking defeat in the final, the 50-year-old was asked about his future plans but the former cricketer stayed mum on it and gave no clear answer. He mentioned that due to the World Cup, he didn’t focus on that aspect but will make a decision soon.

“I haven't thought about it. I've just come off a game. I had no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that. At this point of time, I was completely focused on this campaign and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven't given any other thought to what happens in the future,” Dravid said in the press conference.

Meanwhile, the Roger Binny-led organization will have to take a call soon. India are slated to play a five-match T20I series against Australia from November 23 and ahead of that, they currently do not have a head coach on board. NCA head VVS Laxman might end up being the head coach for the series but nothing is confirmed as of now.
