Team India's head coach and legendary player, Rahul Dravid's elder son, Samit Dravid, has become part of Karnataka's squad for the coveted Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2023. Notably, the squad consists of 15 members and they will take part in the U-19 tournament which is slated to take place between October 12 and October 20, in Hyderabad.
Interestingly enough, Dravid's son will be turning 18 years old just on the eve of the marquee domestic event. The talented batter has already featured in the U-14 competitions in the past and it will be his first experience in the age group. Besides, The younger son, Anvay, also plays cricket and leads the Karnataka side at the U-14 level.
Notably, the Senior Dravid not only represented Karnataka at the senior level but he also played in U-15, and U-17 levels, respectively. Moreover, he also featured in the U-19 level as well. Dravid made his debut for the state, back in the 1991-92 season in the coveted Ranji Trophy. Albeit, Rahul Dravid will most likely be away owing the coaching assignments with Team India in the ongoing home ODI series versus Australia. Hence, he will miss watching his elder son hitting the balls out of the park in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy when he steps onto the cricket pitch with his bat for Karnataka.
Dravid preparing Team India for ODI World Cup 2023 campaign
Speaking of his busy days, Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India is currently with the team and helping them to prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to be played in India, starting from October 5. As the teams are busy with their final dress rehearsals for the grand event, the Men in Blue are also sharpening their final combinations and tactical strategies by playing a 50-over series against Australia.
Notably, the ODI series started on Friday, September 22, in Mohali. Speaking of the game, Pat Cummins the Australian skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. Though, the visitors suffered an early jolt in the form of Mitchell Marsh, another while opener David Warner got down to task with Steve Smith and stitched a crucial 94-run stand for the second wicket to set up a good platform for the rest of the batters. However, Mohammed Shami ensured that the visitors had a hard time scoring freely and ended up taking a sensational five-wicket haul (5/51) in his quota of ten overs. As a result, Australia managed to post a somewhat competitive total of 276, considering the rainy conditions.
In reply, Indian openers started solidly as Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad's 142-run stand helped India to consolidate further in the game. the middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 49) finally chipped in with a vital fifty, while the stand-in skipper KL Rahul played a captain's knock (58* off 63) to guide his side to a convincing victory by 5 wickets over the Aussies.
