Indian batter Rajat Patidar recently made headlines after being appointed captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). This decision surprised many fans who expected Virat Kohli to return as skipper. With RCB opting not to retain Faf du Plessis, Patidar came out as the franchise’s choice to lead the team in the upcoming season, which is set to begin on March 22.

The right-handed top-order batter from Madhya Pradesh has been part of RCB since 2021 and has become one of their key players. In 27 IPL matches, he has hammered 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.85. His breakthrough moment came in IPL 2022 when he scored a 112* off 54 balls in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants, becoming the first uncapped player to score a century in an IPL playoff match.

Patidar had started his first-class career in 2015-16. Playing for Madhya Pradesh, he scored a hundred on debut and another in the next match. But his most important century in the format came against Mumbai in the final of the 2022 Ranji Trophy. It helped his team clinch the title after a gap of 69 years. He has gone on to lead Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and consistently delivers strong performances for the side. With his performances in IPL and domestic cricket, Patidar received his maiden international call-up, making his ODI debut for India against South Africa on December 21, 2023, and his Test debut against England on February 2, 2024.
