Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Kedar Jadhav smashes 283 to mark First-Class return
Jadhav has scored 283 runs in Maharashtra's ongoing game against Assam.
After waiting for three long years, veteran all-rounder Kedar Jadhav made his return to the Maharastra squad and played a stellar knock as he scored 283 runs in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Maharashtra and Assam at DY Patil Academy, Ambi on Thursday.
Jadhav’s explosive knock featured 21 fours and 12 sixes which helped Maharashtra pile an enormous total of 594/9 decl. in response to Assam's 274 in first innings. His destructive knock helped the team take a lead of 320 runs as Maharashtra would look forward to defending that and winning the match by an innings.
Meanwhile, Jadhav was only added to the playing XI after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi were selected to represent India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old came to bat when Maharashtra were at 95/2 and eventually took them to 144 runs when umpires called for stumps on Day 2.
The veteran looked aggressive in his approach on the third day of the match as he scored 183 runs off 187 balls before retiring hurt. However, he once again walked out to bat after the fall of the fourth wicket and went on to add another 100 runs to his name.
Interestingly, this was also Jadhav’s first three-figure mark in First Class cricket in almost five long years and his second double-century since the 2013-14 season -- where he finished as the leading run-scorer. However, his highest score in the longest format of the game came in the 2012-13 season, when he amassed 327 runs against Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Jadhav went unsold in the recently concluded IPL auction. The all-rounder was listed under the base price of INR 1 crore but none of the franchises showed any interest to sign him. He played 93 games in the cash-rich league and scored 1196 runs at a strike rate of 123.17. For India, the all-rounder scored 1511 runs from 82 international matches.
