India's premier first-class cricket tournament, Ranji Trophy is set to begin its 90th edition on October 11, 2024, with a new format designed to enhance the competition. This season introduces 32 teams in the Elite category and six in the Plate category, along with a promotion and relegation system to keep things new.
In the Elite category, 32 teams are divided into four groups of eight teams. Each team will face off against others in their group once, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, the Plate category sees six teams competing in a round-robin format, with the top four qualifying for the knockouts.

In the new promotion and relegation system, the two Plate finalists will earn a spot in next season's Elite category, while the bottom two Elite teams across all groups will face relegation to the Plate category.
Defending champions Mumbai will be looking to retain their title. The group stage runs from October to early February of 2025, with quarter-finals beginning on February 8, 2025. Semi-finals kick off on February 17, leading up to the summit clash on February 26.
