Star Mumbai middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will be absent from the team's upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture against Tripura. MCA officials have confirmed that he won't be traveling to Agartala for the match scheduled to begin on November 26. The team, which has already announced a 16-member squad on Monday, has opted not to name a replacement.

According to a Cricbuzz report, sources within the BCCI confirmed that Iyer requires at least a week's rest. Iyer missing out adds to the defending champions' growing list of absentees as they will also be without Suryakumar Yadav, who has opted out due to person reasons. Furthermore, Mumbai have dropped Prithvi Shaw following his poor performances.

Iyer, who recently scored a century against Maharashtra, had been transparent about the need to manage his workload. "No matter whatever people think outside, I have to listen to my body because I know the amount of threshold I've carried over the last few years and based on that I'll be taking the right decision and I hope that my team will also back (me)," he had said recently after scoring a century against Maharashtra.

Obviously I was feeling a bit down with my injuries: Shreyas Iyer

The development is particularly important given his recent medical history. Following back surgery last year, Iyer made a successful return, participating in both the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. However, the demanding schedule of seven consecutive multi-day games appears to have taken its toll on him.

"Obviously I was feeling a bit down with my injuries, but now getting a century after a very long time, it's a great feeling overall. I am absolutely keen for a comeback, but, yeah, as we say, control the controllables," he added.

Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (capt), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Akhil Herwadkar, Shreyas Iyer, Siddhesh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Hardik Tamore (wk), Sidhaant Addhatrao (wk), Shams Mulani, Karsh Kothari, Himanshu Singh, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Avasthi, Juned Khan, Royston Dias
