Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Siddharth Desai takes nine wickets against Uttarakhand, records best figures for Gujarat

The second half of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season has begun and there have been some great performances so far. The player that has made a lot of impact in the tournament so far is Gujarat’s young left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai who has also been one of the top wicket-takers this season.

The 24-year-old has been delivering impactful performances and taking wickets which he has done in the ongoing match against Uttarakhand as well. Siddharth Desai played a crucial role in bundling out Uttarakhand for just 111 runs as he finished with figures of 9/36 in the first innings.

Desai bowled 15 overs including five maidens at an impressive economy rate of 2.40. This is so far one of the best spells in Ranji Trophy 2024-25. This has taken Desai into the record books as it is the third-best figures in the Ranji Trophy and the best figures for a bowler from Gujarat. The record was previously held by Rakesh Dhruv achieved back in 2012 when he took 8/31 against Saurashtra.

The two players ahead of Desai in the best figures in an innings are Anshul Kamboj who was the first bowler to take 10 wickets in an innings in the Ranji Trophy which he achieved against Kerala in 2024 and Ankeet Chavan who took 9/23 against Punjab in 2012. 

Speaking of the match, the Gujarat innings is currently placed at 190/4 with Manan Hingrajia and Jaymeet Patel at the crease. Hingrajia has completed his half-century and Jaymeet is currently batting on 29. The team is leading by 79 runs at the end of Day 1.

Desai is currently the seventh-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 25 wickets from the six matches he has played so far. His overall tally is 159 wickets from just 36 matches at an average of 26.26.
