In an unfortunate turn of events, Venkatesh Iyer injured himself while batting during the ongoing Group C clash against Kerala at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The twisted ankle injury seemed quite serious, as Iyer limped off the field grimacing in pain.

Coming in to bat at a score of 49/4 with Madhya Pradesh in deep trouble in the first session of Day 1's play, Iyer managed to score two runs off the three deliveries he faced before being sent back to the dressing room. He was declared "retired hurt", and it is highly improbable that he will take further part in the game.

Iyer's participation in IPL 2025 in jeopardy after recent setback

A twisted ankle generally takes around one to six weeks to mend in its entirety. With the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League set to commence on March 21, Iyer will likely regain physical fitness in time to represent Kolkata Knight Riders right from the outset of the upcoming season. The KKR faithful and the cricket fraternity in general would be hoping for him to spring back into the mix soon. For the unversed, Iyer was bought for a whopping INR 23.75 crore during the mega auction for IPL 2025.

Coming to the game, Madhya Pradesh find themselves in all sorts of trouble at 85/6 at Lunch at the time of writing. Apart from skipper, Shubham Sharma, no other batter could establish themself at the crease.33-year-old MD Nidheesh breathed fire, as he accounted for four of the visitors' wickets. One of his four dismissals was that of Rajat Patidar. The latest victim of Nidheesh was Saransh Jain.

Ahead of the game, Madhya Pradesh were placed sixth in Group C, winning only one of their five matches played this season. For them to salvage anything out of this game, they will have to play out of their skins from hereon.
