Mumbai clinched their 42nd Ranji Trophy title as they beat Vidarbha in the final by 169 runs on Thursday, March 14 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Set a massive target of 538 runs in the fourth innings, Vidarbha came into the day with the score on 248/5 in their innings with captain Akshay Wadkar (56*) and Harsh Dubey (11*) at the crease.
The duo showed great resilience in the face of adversity and stitched a valiant 130-run stand off 255 balls for the sixth wicket. Wadkar went on to notch up a brilliant ton with the help of nine fours and a six. However, the right-handed wicketkeeper-batter-skipper fell prey to Tanush Kotian who trapped him in front of the stumps in the second session of Day 5.
Dubey (65 off 128) also departed in the very next over leaving Vidarbha staring down the barrel at 355/7. Despande, Kotian, and Dhawal Kulkarni ran through the tail and bundled out Vidarbha for 368 to set a massive 169-run win for their team.
